That's Comtarded!
My four hour window for Comcast installation was this morning. It was kinda strange to watch both my roommates leave for work because Melissa usually leaves before I even get up and I usually leave with Rebecca sometime after that. It wasn't incredibly quiet by myself (I was running the washer) nor was it any more relaxing than it usually is (testament to how well we work together as roommates) but it was the first time I was in the apartment alone and in all honesty, it was kinda boring. We don't have a TV yet and even if we did I was waiting for the cable guy to show up so it's not like I could have watched anything. I had been connecting to a wireless network that had disappeared overnight so answering emails or generally messing around on the internet was out.
Lucky for my sanity Comcast showed up around 9.15, an hour and fifteen minutes after the installation window had started. The cable box is in the front of the house, hanging off the side about ten feet above the ground and is an absolute mess. Nothing protects the connections from the wind and rain except for some heavy-duty rubberized plugs that dangle precariously above the sidewalk. The cable guy got right to work with the simple part - plugging the cable marked "23" into the regular cable line and checking all the cables in the house. Nothing. To make a long story short, the cables in our apartment are totally fucked. We eventually got two cable plugs working in the living room and kitchen (only helpful because the kitchen is probably a better wireless point than the extreme-back-of-the-apartment-living room) and even figured out that the cable running to two more rooms was cut on the most difficult to get to wall outside. So an hour later cable exists and works in some places. Not in the most ideal places, but some. I've gotta call Comcast sometime soon to set up an appointment to unbreak the breakage for the rest of the apartment. I might even be able to get the landlord to pay for it.
I was incredibly excited to get in to work before 11 so I could be part of the Randy Reddig Comet Interface Standup Extravaganza so I rushed off before I did more than made sure the cable modem was syncing correctly. I'll work on getting wireless through the house tonight if I'm not too busy entertaining Tom who's on the west coast for a couple more days after driving up from LA today with his girlfriend that I haven't met yet. I'm ditching all you sketchy cometers tomorrow to hang with Tomas but I'll be back on Friday.
Oh, I saw Logan's Run last night. That movie should have been over in 45 minutes but it was TWO HOURS LONG. OMG.
Comments
Topical creams should clear that up in a few weeks.
Even better than Mark's link: "I deleted the entire Internet!"
The Randy Reddig extravaganza made me laugh. Wow, I needed that today.
Regarding Logan's Run, I must have seen that once as a small child had been extremely impressed by it. But I watched it again as an adult a few years ago, and it just didn't do it for me. Have you ever seen Soylent Green or The Omega Man? Those are some fine apocolyptic films starring the always hilarious Charlton Heston. :)
Soylent Green is *classicly* bad. I'll have to check out The Omega Man - I'd never have seen any of these movies if it weren't for netflix!
Don't you know that us old people are sensitive about that movie??! :)
