What's one thing that you hope to do or accomplish before the end of this year?
I want to be learning new things again, hopefully on my way to getting in to Berkeley.
Who is your favorite Muppet? Why?
QotD submitted by knitwitology.vox.com.
- The question is, what is a mah na mah na?
- The question is, who cares?
What's the one CD that will totally remind you of the Summer of 2006?
If the past month or two is any indication, Sam Roberts' Chemical City will persist through the summer and serve as a reminder to the summer of aught-six. Have a listen to all of it if you're in the office (connect to the iTunes share Nick Enjoys) or listen to the included song, An American Draft Dodger in Thunder Bay.
What are your three favorite album covers of all-time? Any honorable mentions?
Question submitted by Tamara.
Album covers are a luxury enjoyed only by those who buy their music in physical stores or get lucky with some obsessive-compulsive who happened to scan the cover for the ID3 tag.
I'm going to preempt the QotD by stealing Gladys' suggestion before it's used because I have a fantastic answer. The question she suggested (in short form) is What's your favorite county fair food?
Deep Fried Twinkies. Sweartogod. I was at the Santa Cruz boardwalk (county fair, boardwalk, what's the difference?) this past Saturday with Rebecca (whom I still cannot get to sign up for Vox, even after I told her that she could name her blog "Blogs are Lame") and we saw the most fantastic treat ever - Deep Fried Twinkies. With chocolate and strawberry sauce. Pictures follow.
Regarding the Apple vs. Ubuntu switch mongering that seems to be going on: If I were Apple, I'd be proud of myself. OS X finally has the important things down solid - excellent stability, security and ease-of-use. Apple used the ultra-geeks to get it right and now it's ready to move on to a different (and larger) user base. They're marketing the fact that you can run Windows with Parallels Desktop! How is that not a DEAD giveaway? No one important at Apple cares that they're alienating the nerd high-council because they're going to make a metric fuckload of cash in doing just that.
Edit: This shirt might capture the feeling perfectly.
